Using InDesign and Illustrator together

In the last movie, I mentioned how you can create all kinds of cool vector path effects in InDesign, but the truth is that sometimes it's better just to use a different program for some effects. The good news is that InDesign plays well with its Creative Suite friends, like Adobe Illustrator. For example, here in this catalog file from my Exercise folder, I don't like this boring, gray circle. I want to spice it up a little bit, and I'm going to use Adobe Illustrator. To get this shape into Illustrator, I'm going to copy it to the clipboard with Command+C or Ctrl+C on Windows, then I'll switch to Illustrator, create a new document, click OK, and then Paste, Command+V or Ctrl+V on Windows. Now this circle looks exactly the same as it does in InDesign, but there's a little difference. You can see that difference if you look inside the Layers panel.
