So pretty much all the Align and Distribute commands can be found via the Control panel. So if I select these four objects, I get all my widgets up there. There is one thing that you definitely need the Align panel for. They have not put that in the Control panel yet. So let's go to our Window menu and pull down to Object & Layout and choose the Align panel. I first want to align or distribute their centers, so we will go ahead and align their vertical centers here, so they are all lined up together. Now I want a specific amount of space between each object.
Yes, I could try to figure that out and do Guides or use Smart Guides until I get a match, but it's just quicker sometimes to just select the range of objects and make them all have a specific amount of space between them. So I am going to turn on the Use Spacing checkbox, and then enter the amount of space I want between each object here. I am going to type in 3 for 3 Picas. I am going to press Return. That doesn't actually do anything. It just sets the value that these two buttons are then going to use. So I want to distribute the Horizontal space, so that there is 3 Picas of space between each item.
Let's go ahead and click that button, and voila. That's exactly what I get. Now that they are equally spaced out, I can then move the whole thing as a unit wherever I want that to be on the page. So that's the one thing you need the Align panel for. There you have it.
