Aligning to a baseline grid

There is a debate among designers as to how important it is to align your baselines across columns, or ever across pages. For example, I have my roux_article document opened from the Exercise Folder, and I'm going to jump to the next spread by pressing Option+Page Down or Alt+Page Down. Now, I'm going to zoom in on a couple of columns here across this page spread. Next, in order to see my guides, I'll go to the View Menu, choose Grids & Guides, and then turn on Show Guides. I want to see my guides because I'm going to add a guide to this page. I'm going to do that by dragging out of the ruler, and I'm going to drag all the way over to this right column, right against the first baseline in that text column. Now, I'm going to hold down the Command key on the Mac or Ctrl on Windows, because that forces that guide to turn in to a pasteboard guide.
