093 Creating custom frames

Hi. I'm Mike Rankin and welcome to InDesign effects. In this week's effect, we'll see how to combine the shapes of overlapping frames to get a desired stroke effect. For example, take a look at this photograph of Boston. Notice the white stroke and how it follows the shape of the text down here at the bottom? Well you can't do that if you put a stroke around the text or just a simple stroke around a rectangular frame. You need to use the path finder command to unite those two shapes to get the stroke to follow the tops of the letters like that. So, let's give it a try. I'll go to the next page of my document. And the first thing I'll note here is that this text is actually already been converted to outlines. I wanted to use the pathfinder command and you can't use the pathfinder command on live text. So I have outlined text here and I have my rectangular frame. So I'll shift click to select them both. I'll open my pathfinder panel, and I'll choose the second one from the left over…
