Hi, I'm Mike Rankin, and welcome to InDesign Effects. In this week's effect, we'll see how to create something that looks a lot like a bottle cap, onto which you can put whatever designs you like. The key is to start with a polygon, and then use a beveled corner effect to create the shape of the bottle cap. Then apply effects to give it some highlights and shadows. So I'll go to my next page of my document. And we'll create our bottle cap. We just have some text down here that we're going to apply on top of it. But first, I want to take my Polygon tool, click in the document. And I'm going to create a polygon that's 300 pixels wide, 300 pixels tall with 24 sides, and a star inside of 10%.
I'll click OK. I'll give it a little fill. Black with a 5% tint, just very light, because I want this to seem like it's painted white. Next, I'll apply those corner effects. I'll choose a beveled corner of seven pixels. And now let's apply some effects. I'll move it over so I can see the dialog box. Double-click in the Effects Panel. And we'll start with Bevel and Emboss. I'll choose Inner Bevel, Smooth and Up. I'll increase the size from seven pixels to 30. I'll increase the Altitude to 70 degrees, and then I'll apply a Satin effect.
I'll decrease the opacity from 50% down to 10%, and leave the other settings the same. Lastly I'll apply a Drop Shadow. With a distance of zero, so it's right behind the bottle cap, and I'll increase the size of it, say to ten pixels, and click OK. Now, all I need to do is to move my logo on top, bring it to the front, and there I have my bottle cap effect. So, in this video, we saw how to make a bottle cap by starting with a polygon, applying beveled corners, and effects like Bevel and Emboss, and Satin. I'm Mike Rankin.
I'll be back in two weeks. Thanks for watching.
