You know, I've always felt that there were two kinds of people in the world; there are layers people and then there are not-layers people. You know just like the clean-desk-messy-desk thing, if you're using Illustrator, you can choose to use layers if you want to, to maybe more organized, but you don't have to. That's actually a big difference between Illustrator and Photoshop, wherein Photoshop you really need to use layers as you work. But here's the thing: inside of Illustrator you can actually use the Layers panel without using layers at all. It's an incredibly powerful panel, and I can't wait to show you why, inside of this chapter.
