Adobe Illustrator has long been the most popular and viable vector-drawing program on the market but, for many, the learning curve is steep. In Illustrator CS3 One-on-One: The Essentials , author and leading industry expert Deke McClelland teaches the key features of Illustrator in a way that anyone can understand. He also goes beyond that, showing users how to get into the Illustrator "mindset" to make mastering Illustrator simple and easy. The training covers how to use the core drawing and shape tools, the transformation and reshaping features, text and gradients, and color management and printing features. Even if learning Illustrator has been a struggle in the past, this time it is going to make sense. Exercise files accompany the training.
Now is the point at which I'm going to begin teaching you how to draw inside Illustrator. We'll start simply and build our way up. But this early in the game some of you may wonder, Hey Deke, aren't you a Photoshop guy? What makes you think you can teach me how to draw inside an illustration program? Okay so now all I'm going to do is toot my own horn. If you want to skip it, skip it. Otherwise, true. These days, most folks know me for Photoshop, but I began life and continue life as a graphic artist. 20 years ago I wrote the second book ever published on Adobe Illustrator. That was the same year I wrote the first book ever published on what was then Aldus FreeHand. Then a year later, I wrote the only book ever published on Illustrator 1 for Windows.
I also wrote the only book Canvas, and the best-selling title on any vector illustration program ever CorelDraw for Dummies, translated into 20 languages. Over the years I've written titles on Illustrators 1, 88, 3, 5, 5.5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 as well is hosted in- depth videos on Illustrators 9, 10, CS, and CS2. Yes it's true. I'm actually 73 years old, but this video, the one you're watching now, quite frankly it's a step up. It's the most detailed, the most far-reaching, the most comprehensive training I've created on Adobe Illustrator to date. My point being, I think you're in good hands.
You'll know for yourself when you finish this chapter.
