Incorporating rasters in scatter brushes

Video: Incorporating rasters in scatter brushes

When we looked at the resolution limit parameters on raster images as Brushes in Illustrator, we were talking about Art and Pattern Brushes. Because Scatter Brushes have their own parameters. And actually when I asked Adobe what they are, they said, well, they're going to be way slower down in their program before we reach the limit. So they wouldn't even give me an outside limit. So if I'm dragging this artwork here into the brushes panel to make a new brush, and I say, make it into an art brush, I'm going to get the warning. Nope, doesn't work.

But if I go in here. And I say scatter brush, I can do it. So, your limits in terms of resolution are only in terms of the performance of you program. Remember, these are only paths, I'm going to just hide the background and look at. The brush paths in outline mode. They're just paths scattering this raster artwork along it.

You can vary it in terms of size, all of these parameters here, in terms of size, spacing, scatter, rotation. There's no colorization even if you choose it. It's not going to currently affect your rasters. So it's really just resizing and moving around your artwork. It can handle it.
