If the artwork that you are creating inside of Illustrator is going to be placed inside of a layout inside of QuarkXPress, the best format for you to use is EPS. At the time of recording this video QuarkXPress 8 had just become available and while version 8 is advertised as being able to place native Illustrator files or .AI files, I have found that in my initial tests some transparency features do not come in correctly. So at this point I still recommend that you stick with the EPS file format. To do that, simply go to the File menu, choose Save As and from the Format option choose EPS. It's important to realize that if you want to actually export your file remember that EPS itself does not have the ability to contain multiple pages inside of it. Therefore, you can either choose Use Artboards and specify a range of files that you want. In this particular case here for example if I choose All, the result is going to be four EPS files because my Illustrator document contains four artboards inside of it.
Alternatively, I can choose to export a range of pages. By the way if I don't use the artboards option then my entire Illustrator file gets exported as one big page, which I can then place and crop as necessary inside of my Quark layout.
