When working with both Illustrator and Flash, you actually have three possible options available to you. The first one is quite simple. You can take any artwork inside of Illustrator, copy it and then paste it directly into Flash. If you are using symbols those come right over as well. If you want to benefit from this though, you will need to use at least Flash version CS 3 or higher. Another way is to go the File menu, choose Export and to actually write out a SWF file directly out of Illustrator. Although if you choose this option you are going to lose some editable information. I'll go ahead and I'll click Cancel.
The best way to actually get your artwork from Illustrator into Flash is to save your files a native Illustrator file, an .AI file. Then go into Flash, choose File, Import to Stage and then you could take that native Illustrator file and bring that right into your layout inside of Flash. If you are using Flash CS4 this workflow is actually wonderful. Not only can you import all of the symbols that you have created inside of Illustrator, but Flash CS4 also understands Illustrator's multiple artboards feature. In this way you can import just the artwork that you need for the project in hand. So again when using Illustrator and Flash together, the best two options you have are either copy and paste for individual elements or for an entire layout or design just save your file as native Illustrator file and import it directly into Flash.
