Creating an authentic wood-grain texture

- Textures are all around you. Some are caused naturally, and others are manmade. If you take the time to notice them, and observe them, you'll be inspired to use them in your creative pursuits. Let me show you an example of how I let a wood-grain texture enhance my flat vector design. Whenever I travel, I'm always looking for textures, and the texture that you're going to see me end up using in this design was derived from that type of excursion. And I'll show you that shortly, but first off I want to make a few comments about this art. This is a tribal design I created for a company called InkDot, and this is going to be used on some printed material and also turned into a nice throw pillow, so it's great in terms of the vector art and the aesthetic. And my kind of color was derived from the cultural colors that I pulled from Pacific Northwest American art, and that's what I used to colorize this, to give it a more authentic feel, and kind of align with that kind of vibe.
