Illustrator Insider Training: Rethinking the Essentials is the first installment in a series of courses designed to show experienced Illustrator users to how master core features and build art more efficiently. Adobe Illustrator has evolved dramatically over the years, and many creative professionals may be missing out on features that have been added to the latest versions. This course takes a fresh approach to core concepts, such as paths, attributes, object hierarchy, groups, and layers. Advanced techniques such as combining multiple effects and customizing textures are also included. Exercise files and a free worksheet are included with the course.
Welcome to the first title in the Illustrator Insider Training series, Rethinking the Essentials. My name is Mordy Golding. Now, I know what you're thinking: you already know the essentials of Illustrator, right? The thing is Illustrator has changed a lot over the years, and we often take basic concepts for granted--things like fills and strokes, or object stacking order. Once we review some core vector concepts, I'll discuss the most important panel in Illustrator, the Appearance panel. I'll teach you how to take complete control over your artwork and explain the difference between selecting artwork and targeting it.
Then we'll go on to explore where groups really are, and how you can tap into their power and have Illustrator do some graphics work for you, instead of the other way around. Armed with these concepts, we'll dive into Illustrator's Effect menu and go beyond the drop shadow. We'll employ a full range of live effects, many of which most people simply dismiss as being, well, useless. Now, I suggest that you first take a look at one of my other courses in the lynda.com Online Training Library, Illustrator CS5 Essential Training.
