Hangouts are another feature of having a Google+ page. Hangouts let you converse with your contacts, or the public, or customers, folks in your circles, when they are free. It's kind of like bumping into someone you know. You can say hello face to face with video from anywhere, and you can hangout with up to nine contacts. Essentially popping in and popping out as you choose. I'm logged in as Jaryl Leonard, this is the Google+ page for Jaryl, and you'll see here that Akee and Juan are both free, they are in her circles. And she can have hangouts from a personal perspective with her Google+ personal page, but she can also hit No Obstacles Sport and manage her Google+ business page and manage hangouts under the brand of No Obstacles Sport.
So what we're going to do is just to do a live example here, and as the CEO of No Obstacles Sport, let's say I want to have a staff meeting. I'm going to go ahead and hit Start a Hangout, and if for any reason you don't see this screen immediately, you'll just one to go through and follow the download instructions to set that up. So here I am on video waving Hi to you and starting a Hangout is fun and for friends as well, as business contacts, co-workers, however you want to use these Hangouts you can go ahead and start typing your Contacts below, you can Manage things, you can have Public chats, you can have different circles.
I going to go ahead and invite Akee, and I'm going to search by her email address, and there we go, and I am also going to invite Juan. There we go. And so you can search for people either by their email address, or you can also search by name, and Mark is also another contact. So let's say I want to have an impromptu staff meeting.
I can go ahead and Start a Hangout and invite people I choose. I can name this, and I'm making this an impromptu staff meeting. Google+ for business can be used for public conversations with your customers, whatever works for you, so this is just an example. And you can Enable Hangouts on the Air, and if you're a little curious as to what that option is, it just means that you can Broadcast your Hangouts live and record them on the Air. So those of who that are looking to develop more YouTube content for your business, this is a great opportunity to have your videos recorded and stored.
So for folks that may not be able to Hangout Live, they can always watch later. So okay, we got it, we're not going to Enable this to be on the Air. We'll just do this as an example. and then you have some last Hangout Options, things like Restricting the minors from joining the hangout, or choosing a Preferred language. I'm not going to make any changes, I'll go ahead and cancel this out, and you also have the options of muting yourself. I'm not going to mute myself, because you need to hear me to instruct the course, and you can also turn the camera off. so let's say I don't want to be seen, but I want my voice to be heard. I can go ahead and opt out of that.
I'll turn it back on, so you can see me, there I'm saying Hi! And you also have the Settings feature and these are ways to Troubleshoot. If you have any problems with your screen, or you want to change the volume, playing test sound, connections, this is the place to go if you're having any video issues. I don't need to make any changes, I am going to go ahead and cancel out of that, and there I am, and once I'm ready to go, I hit Hangout. You have other options besides video, you can chat, so if I want to welcome everyone. And see here when I'm doing the chat, since this a Google+ business page, my little icon is the logo for the organization, not my personal icon, and you have a little happy faces, sad faces, whatever, if you want to add a personal touch, you can go ahead and do that.
You can always invite more people during the meeting if that's something you'd like to do. You can also do Screen Shares, so let's say on the meeting I want to talk about ways to optimize the No Obstacles Sport Page, I can pull up that window and Share it, and you see the thumbnail down here, that's what the attendees of the Hangout would see. They wouldn't see my video anymore, they'd actually see the screen I'm sharing here. And to uncheck that you just hit the Screenshare that's highlighted, and I'm unchecking that, and you have fun things like Google Effects, and you can add things like your little devils horns and funny goggles, and glasses, and things to be a little incognito. Kind of fun, funny facial hair, a little cupcake there, little sense of humor there.
I'll uncheck out of that, and you can also connect with YouTube, Google Docs, and Add Apps. So now I'm just waiting for people to enter the Hangout, and if people are free, they'll pop on in, and they'll pop on out, whatever works for them. And it looks like two of my attendees have joined the Hangout. Hey guys what's up? Akee Ning Wu: Hi! Juan Ricardo Estes: Hello! So we all are at different locations, and we're able to chat and converse live, and you can have a Google+ Hangouts with the public, with your circles, in this case this is a sample staff meeting, so we can talk about things happening at No Obstacles Sport, but just know that this is an option for you to manage your communications.
And one last note, if you ever want to block people, let's say that Juan is just dominating the meeting and won't be quiet, I can mute him. So here we go, mute now, yes, yes. See? Now I'm muting him. Now he's trying to talk and he can see, and we can't hear him. I can also, I can cancel that out, and you can also delete people. Let's say I want to block someone, then I can go ahead and permanently block her, and you can report people for harassing behavior and things like that.
So I'm not going to do that. But I just want you to show some example. Hey guys, thanks for joining the Hangout. Great to see you! Talk to you later. So meetings can just wrap up that easily, people pop in and out just like you'd bump into someone out in the street, and that's the beauty of the social web. It's a way to engage, communicate, converse, and share information. And lastly, we're going to look at the +1 button as a way to get the word out.
