You can optimize your Google+ page, whether you just got started, or you had an existing page for a while. Taking some of these simple optimization steps can make a big difference in getting the most marketing power out of your business page. The profile picture that you see at the right should reflect your brand as best as it can. When we started creating the Google+ account we started with a simple logo profile picture. But when I looked critically at the photo here on the page in the full expanded mode we realize that it could better reflect the business.
Right now it's certainly appropriate and then it's the logo icon for the brand but when it's large and in full view it doesn't necessarily convey the strongest message we felt as owners of the No Obstacles Sport brand. So let's go ahead and change it. I'm going to hit Change Profile Photo, and you have options, you could use your web camera, which in this case we're not going to, because you don't need to have my picture on the profile photo. You can have Photos of you, you can have your own personal photos, you can actually select photos from your Scrapbook photos, from various albums.
In this case, our designers actually designed a custom photo, and I'm going to go ahead and go to the Desktop and upload this one here. And the size of this image is a 250x 250 image, and the one I'm optimizing here has the logo, the tagline, and it also has an athlete wearing the athletic wear. So we're going to go ahead, that looks great, we can add a caption here. We'll call it No Obstacles Sport.
I recommend you take the time to add that little caption. This could increase your search visibility, helps you organize photos, and I'm going to go ahead and hit the blue button and set it as the profile photo. And Google+ encourages you to share your new photo. I'm going to go ahead and just make a comment and say, We have updated our profile photo - what do you think? Being very conversational in the messaging here Google+ is a social media application so it is all about being social. I'm going to go ahead and hit Share.
And the way it works right now for Google+ is you do have to share these photos either to your circles or to public for these to go live. So now we have the profile photo, and we're viewing this as a potential follower would look at the page, and so right now, we have something that's a little more on brand a little more on purpose. The next image that you can optimize for your Google+ page for business is your cover photo. So if you want to change this image you can go ahead and hit Change Cover Photo and Google gives you a gallery to work with.
Most of you, if you have not changed your image to something already it's going to look something like this to begin with. Again, this doesn't necessarily reflect the brand so we can Change Cover Photo to outdoor brand. So we could do something like grass, it's pretty, and it certainly complements the green of the logo, but this is still a big piece of real estate that could be optimized to really communicate the power of what No Obstacles Sport does. So we can go through, and we can add photos. Let's try something from our gallery here.
We can put the picture in of the lady boxing. And how it works as you drag it to reposition the image, drag this and drag this, and that's kind of cool. It shows the No Obstacles Sport logo on her athletic wear, and it ties into the brand. But again, it may not be the best image for the organization. So what we actually did is we designed a specific image and the image space is 940 by 180 pixels. So I'm going to go ahead and select a photo that I had saved to my Desktop, and the intention here was to create an image that was not only on brand but really was on purpose.
We have the logo here, and it was important for the No Obstacles Sport team to use their Google+ page for business, to not only connect with customers, and potential customers, but also to drive traffic back to the website. So what they did is they designed the URL, the website address here into the image. They have a cool picture of the hiking shoe, but they used the text right here. So it was more left justified, because they knew that when the image appeared to the public the profile picture was going to be on top of it.
So these are things to think about. For No Obstacles Sport it was important to take the time to have a graphic artist do something that was really professional and really reflected the look and feel that the organization wanted.
