So one the many reasons we have a Google+ page for our business is to be visible. Right? Building awareness, increasing visibility, and being available to perspective customers, current customers, employees, donors for those of you in the nonprofit world, a lot of reasons to be visible. It's a great way communicate, build awareness, connect, serve, and ultimately indirectly we want to sell through our social media work. So here we are at our Google+ page, and I just hit my profile. So I'm looking at my page and the way your profile looks visibly to the public is something that you're going to want to take a look at, and I just wanted to show you how to go ahead and get in there.
I'm putting my mouse over the words No Obstacles Sport and to the right of that you can actually view this as the Public. So it takes you out of the editing mode, the managerial role, and you no longer can edit things, which is actually nice and sometimes you want to take a look at your page and see how it looks to people who are coming here as potential followers, and it just gives you a nice idea of what's public, what's not public, things like that. So I encourage you to look and see what is public, and some of you may find things like, oh, gosh, my phone number isn't the way it supposed to be, or I can't see it in here. There's actually ways to make things visible.
I'm going to go ahead and stop viewing as Public so I can edit and show you how to do that. You are going to go back up to Edit profile, and there's some additional settings that you can set. So here on the About section I can change things to make my introduction visible only to my circle. So let's say I have specific contacts that I only want to be able to read our bio, I may want to limit that. Since No Obstacles Sport is an organization that is looking for global visibility I'm going to keep it as Public. I'm just going to cancel out of that.
But things like Contact Information, let's say you're in the process of moving, and you're like, yeah, I don't know if I really want people to be able to connect with me as personally unless we have some sort of relationship. You can limit it to your circles, and you can even limit it to just you. So I'm going to go ahead and hit just me just to show you how that looks. The areas you can make public and not public are your introduction and your contact info. The website and the links are Public. I'm going to hit Done editing, and I'm going to go back, and I'm going to view this profile as Public.
What you'll see here now is that since I have blocked the Contact Info even though I can see it as a manager, I no longer can see it as a public viewer. So make sure that the things that you want to be public are public and things that you don't are not visible. So that's some advice on ways to manage your Google+ page and your visibility, and I also wanted to note that when you are managing your page you're also able to manage your personal account, and that may apply to your business.
Jaryl Leonard, case in point, is the CEO of No Obstacles Sport. So when she is representing herself out there on Google+ she's an advocate of her organization. So she's going to go ahead and she can click her profile and she can see how it looks either by clicking her icon here or by clicking this here, which takes you to the same place, and she can also view her public profile minus the editing mode and see how that looks. Oh, okay, this is how it looks out there. She can go ahead and see what's Public, hmm, oh, interesting, okay, this is cool.
There we go. I'm going to go ahead and stop viewing as Public, and I'm going to show you that you can edit your profile and your visibility settings here too. Bragging rights, right now the fact that I choose a grandmother is visible to her, because it's set only for her, and let's say as the CEO she wants to connect more in a personal level, she can change things and make that public or maybe she wants a little bit of in between and wants to only show that she is a grandmother with her circles. She can go ahead and save that.
Her Employment, she can make public, private, Places lived, things like her Relationship, she may say, yeah, that's really personal. I'm going to make that only my information or she can keep it at her circles. But I encourage you to go through these settings and see how they're checked right now and see what's visible. Things like birthday, she locked that. Everything with Google+ is going to start off as Public, and I want you to know that so that you are going through and making sure that what is appropriate for you as a representative of your organization is what you feel is appropriate.
So Google makes all of these things public. She had set it to be Private, because she doesn't feel like her date of birth is something that's necessary for her investors or employees to see. But you can change these things. Then one other thing I wanted to point out as far as making your profile visible, and this is Google+ for your personal page, you can have your Profile discovery. Right now it's checked, and it's automatically checked to help others discover your profile and search results. Let's say you really want to start by being anonymous or not as visible, you can uncheck this, and when you uncheck the box it prevents most search engines from indexing your profile.
It doesn't guarantee that some of them may not find it, but it is a way to kind of minimize some of your visibility. It does not prevent them from indexing any public post. So let's say you post a video, and you post it as Public, it is going to be visible. I'm going to keep this checked, because in this particular case Jaryl Leonard does want to be visible. She wants people to be able to Google and to read about her in as many possible ways. So what I want to point out here is that you have the option to always edit your profile, whether you are managing your page for business as a personal public figure, or if you're managing your page, and there are profile visibility options that you can set and check and see what's set by simply going in and editing your profile.
