So what we have here is a completed profile for Jaryl Leonard, the CEO of No Obstacles Sport, the fictional company we created for the lynda.com course, and Jaryl Leonard is also a fictional person. The point of this was to show that you have to have the personal profile to go to the Google+ for Business profile. And the way that the profile looks for personal is very similar to how it looks for business, and you have the ability to update pictures, change your posts.
If you want to change your cover photo, you can change that to a 940x180-pixel picture if you wanted to at a later date, just like the business page works. But in this case, what we want to do is start connecting Jaryl with people. And just like marketing is about building relationships with meaningful customers, how we conduct ourselves on the social web is all about making meaningful relationships. In order to navigate your Google+ account, I encourage you to start with the home page tab. The left-hand side has a bunch of different icons that you can select from.
You can always hit More, and you see where I hit More, it says Local, Games, Hangouts, Pages. You can go ahead and customize your things. So in this case, I will want to search for pages eventually. So I'm going to add that to my navigation bar, and I can change things out, I can add in Circles, I can move things around, drag and drop. Google+ made it as easy as they can so that it makes the social experience as seamless as possible. So in Jaryl's case, we want to start connecting her more and more with people.
So going back to her home page, we don't have any friends or family to connect with, and so what she's going to want to do is start connecting with people. And the blue font is always a key. Anytime you see this blue font, oftentimes this is clickable, and so what we're going to do is start searching for co-workers. Since this is a Google+ for Business course, I'm going to focus more on the professional front. And Jaryl is going to look from Mark Lacie, and Mark Lacie is another fictional character, and he is the CFO of No Obstacles.
So I'm going to go ahead and click him, and what I can do is I can drop him into any of my circles, whether he's friends, family, acquaintances, and you can even create your own circle. So, I'm going to create a circle for No Obstacles, create an empty circle, and I can drag my contacts into the right circles, and Google explains what happens when you add them to circles. And the nice thing about Circles is it doesn't have to be just one circle. I can have them as a friend, as well as in my personal No Obstacles category here.
So, I have gone ahead, and I have added Mark Lacie to my Circles, and you can add people to your contacts by searching for people by name. But social networking is all about just that, networking, and so what I'm going to do is take a look at Mark's bio, and it looks like Mark is also connected with me. So I'm going to go ahead and add myself as a friend, and Akee Ning Wu is also a No Obstacles Sport employee, and I'm going to go ahead and add her, and I'm going to add her to my No Obstacles Circle, and Juan Ricardo Estes is also part of No Obstacles Sport, and I'm going to go ahead and add him, and I'm all set.
So, I was able to add contacts just by seeing who one of my existing contacts had in his circle, and was able to search and find more people within my network. So, what you'll see here is that you can add people to multiple groups, connect with friends of friends, and truly employ the power of social networking for business.
