GIMP stands for the GNU Image Manipulation Program. You can think of it as an open source version of Photoshop. It's free to download and free to use and it's supported on both Mac and PC. The GIMP website is located at gimp.org. But to get started, you'll need to download GIMP to your computer. Click on the Download link to do that. And here, under the great picture of Wilber, the GIMP mascot, you will see a link to download GIMP for Windows. This is for Windows 2000 and above. If you're working with a Macintosh, you'll need to click on a link to Show other downloads, and then scroll down the screen just a little ways to find GIMP for Mac OS X. Click the link to download it to your computer and follow the instructions to install it on your personal computer.

If you don't have the money to go out and purchase the full version of Photoshop, GIMP is a great alternative, since it's free and it does lots and lots of things that Photoshop does. So let's get started with GIMP.
