Under Explore, we're now in the commons area, and before the internet, you would have to go to somewhere like the Library of Congress, get access to the archives, to see photos now that are just waiting for you right here in this environment. So this is a collection of the world's public photography archives and you can see a number of the participating institutions here, and as you scroll down the page, you get samples of some of the stuff that's available.
And it's really something else. And if you're doing research, you can search through these archives for images. A lot of the shots, for example, here, let's click on this one. They have added notes or they have tried to identify people or elements in the photo. And then, if you scroll down the page you can get more information about the comments itself. And they even have FAQ. So again, this is something that is a real luxury these days.
We can just sit in our living room and explore the world's photography archives right there on our laptop or our iPad. And this is the Commons area. It's under Explore, right here on Flickr. It's truly amazing.
