Video: Editing your personal information

Here I am in the Account Settings, making sure that Flickr is set up the way that I want. So, we'll take them tab by tab, there are four tabs. Now, the way that you get to that is you go up to your icon, right up here, and go down to Settings. Right here, here's where our settings are located. Now, you know, so we have four tabs here, Personal Information, Privacy, Emails, Sharing & Extending. We're going to focus on Personal Information right now. So, we're reminded that we're signed in as a nimble photographer in this particular account here, and we're also reminded that we have a Flickr account where we get a free terabyte of space, but we also get ads.

Editing your personal information

So, that set up there. Our safety level, we actually don't set that. Flickr sets that. So, after we start uploading some pictures, the editors at Flickr will take a look at our account. More often than not, we will be deemed as safe. Which means that, you know, we just have regular photos there. Flickr editors may apply a different level, so that people are warned and, so they're not shocked. So, they don't come to a page and go, oh, that wasn't really what I was looking for. But for most folks with normal photography, this will change to safe once you start uploading some photos and Flickr has a chance to look at it. You're assigned a buddy icon when you sign up for your account, but you can put any icon that you want there.

You can either upload from your Flickr photos or you can upload from your computer. And you do that by clicking on the edit button. You can also edit your screen name. Which is kind of cool. I happen to like the one we've chose here, so I will leave that. But if I change my mind, I also click on the edit button right there. Now, as for our profile, if we want more information about us, then we can click on edit right here. And you can describe yourself.

So, you can add as much information as you are comfortable with, right here. And then, of course, you can always change it later, if you decide that you don't want to be quite so sharey with your personal stuff. Now your Flickr addresses, this is super important, I think, and I'm going to click on this right now. So, when you want to share your account with other people and what I mean by that is say, hey, go look at my photos on Flickr and you send them a URL. This is the URL that we're talking about.

It's flicker.com/photos/ whatever you put here. Now, most folks will put their account name here so. For example, I would probably enter nimble photographer here, because that's what my account is called, but I could enter something else if I wanted. Here's the thing though, that this is a one shot deal, that you cannot change this later, so once you set this up for this account, this is what it will be. So, think about it but I do encourage you to do it, because it's very nice having a single URL to send people to when you want them to see what you're doing on Flickr.

You can also manage your Yahoo account here if you signed in that way. And then, of course, if you'd like to, you can delete your Flickr account and you do that right here. So, these are the basic Personal Information settings right here. Think about it, enter the stuff that you're comfortable with, and then if you change your mind later, you can always come back to this tab and make those adjustments.
