In Flash Professional CS5 Essential Training, author Todd Perkins explains the fundamentals of Flash Professional CS5, the industry standard for creating animations and interactive applications for the web, desktop, and mobile devices. This course starts with the basics, such as using the drawing tools to create simple animations, and progresses to automating animation with tweens and adding interactivity with ActionScript. This course also covers how to add sound and video to projects, enhance realism with effects like easing, and publish a project to a variety of platforms. Exercise files are included.
Let's take a look at a simple example of an iPhone application created in Flash. If you don't have access to the exercise files, you can just go to File > New, and the choose iPhone OS. Then you can create your application just like you would any other application you create in Flash. Some things may be different about the performance of your application in Flash versus the performance on an actual device. Remember you can find more information about improving performance and doing other things to make better Flash iPhone apps by going to adobe.com/iPhone.
So on the stage here, I have a bunch of buttons and I'll just test this in the Flash Player so you can see how it works. So I can roll over the buttons. Click them and images show up. Pretty simple. And then when I click on this button, a video plays. (Music plays) All the interactivity is made with simple mouse clicks. Now there is custom code that you can use for detecting touches and taps and all that. But Flash will actually convert mouse clicks directly to touches when you export your iPhone application.
So you really don't have to worry about that at all. The code in this application is fairly simple. There are several different frames, and the buttons navigate to the different frames. You can learn more about adding code snippets and navigating the frames in Chapter 19 of this title. So for that reason, I'm not going to go into it in detail right now. That's basically it. To create an application for the iPhone in Flash, all you need to do is you to File > New, and then choose iPhone OS.
