Sometimes, when you're working in Flash, you want to view a layer as just an outline. For example, let's say I wanted to fine-tune this shape that I traced over my guide. It might be better to view the layer as an outline rather than a filled shape. To view a layer as an outline, you click that yellow icon that's under the Show All Layers as Outlines button. I can click to toggle whether that layer appears in Outline mode or not. The same keyboard shortcuts apply with the Option+Clicking or Alt+Clicking as applied to the showing and hiding and locking of layers.
So you can view one layer as outlines and every other layer as a normal layer or the opposite by Option+Clicking or Alt+Clicking. So you'll notice that when I view this layer as Outlines, that the Outline color is pretty close to the color of the flower. So it's kind of hard to see. So let's say I wanted to adjust that Outline color. I can do that in the Layer Properties menu. So I'll double-click the flower layer icon to open up the Layer Properties dialog box. Here I can change the layer's Outline color. So I'll click that Color Picker. I want to use something that's a bright color, that's not anywhere near the color of the flower or anything next to the flower.
So I'll pick a teal color here. So I'll pick that color and click OK. Now I can see the outline of my layer. So I can get in there and fine-tune my shape to better match my guide. So by using Outlines, you can more easily work in Flash and get a different perspective when you're manipulating artwork.
