In Flash Professional CS5 Essential Training, author Todd Perkins explains the fundamentals of Flash Professional CS5, the industry standard for creating animations and interactive applications for the web, desktop, and mobile devices. This course starts with the basics, such as using the drawing tools to create simple animations, and progresses to automating animation with tweens and adding interactivity with ActionScript. This course also covers how to add sound and video to projects, enhance realism with effects like easing, and publish a project to a variety of platforms. Exercise files are included.
The Oval Primitive tool and Rectangle Primitive tool are almost identical to the Oval and Rectangle tools, but there is one significant difference. For a moment, watch my screen. When I click and drag to draw a Rectangle on the Stage, the Options that I set in the Properties panel are set on that shape. So if I drag the corner radius, even if the shape is selected, the values will not change. So I undo that change. We'll take a look at the Rectangle Primitive tool. With a Rectangle Primitive tool, you can draw a shape and note that in the Properties panel, you'll see Rectangle Primitive.
So once the shape is selected, I can click and drag to adjust the corner radius. The same goes for the Oval Primitive tool. When you draw a shape with the Oval Primitive tool, you can adjust the angles and the Inner radius after the shape is created. But these may be your tools of choice, instead of working with the Oval and Rectangle tools, just know that these shapes are different from drawing objects and merge drawing shapes.
Again, you see the word Primitive in the Properties panel. So it's a special kind of object. So they don't behave the same way as drawing objects or shapes. Just keep that in mind when you're working with the Oval and Rectangle Primitive tools.
