In Flash Professional CS5 Essential Training, author Todd Perkins explains the fundamentals of Flash Professional CS5, the industry standard for creating animations and interactive applications for the web, desktop, and mobile devices. This course starts with the basics, such as using the drawing tools to create simple animations, and progresses to automating animation with tweens and adding interactivity with ActionScript. This course also covers how to add sound and video to projects, enhance realism with effects like easing, and publish a project to a variety of platforms. Exercise files are included.
The Eyedropper tool allows you to sample colors and apply them to different objects in your applications. So on the Stage here I have some artwork, and let's say I wanted to reuse some of the colors in it. Maybe I want to reuse this off-white color that's used in the olive oil bottle. So to capture that color I can select the Eyedropper tool, notice the keyboard shortcut is I, and then I can hover my mouse over that color. Then when I click the color, Flash automatically updates my fill color to whatever I selected with the Eyedropper.
I could then use this fill color to create artwork. Note that when you use the Eyedropper tool, Flash automatically goes to the Paint Bucket tool so that you can paint a fill with the color that you just selected. There is another way to access the Eyedropper, which is actually my preferred way to use it. If you click on any color swatch in Flash, for example, the fill color or the stroke color picker in the Properties panel you can pick a Color Swatch that you want to set for your filler stroke color. The great thing about this is if I hover my mouse over any object on Stage I can sample any the colors using an Eyedropper.
So I can use the Eyedropper tool without ever having to actually select that tool. So by using the Eyedropper tool you can establish unity in your artwork by using the same colors throughout your applications.
