For the most part the Eraser tool works a lot like a Brush tool. In this movie we'll look at how the Eraser tool works. So I'll select the Eraser tool in toolbar and then in the Options area at the bottom of the toolbar, you can select different options for the Eraser tool. So I can choose an Eraser mode, Size and Shape and use Faucet mode. I'll turn on Faucet mode by clicking it. You can tell that Faucet mode is on because of the dark background. The Faucet mode erases contiguous fills. So if I click on the dark part of the cactus each contiguous fill that click on will get erased.
So I can erase all of the light part of the cactus at once because the entire fill is contiguous. So I'll turn off Faucet mode and then go back to Normal Erase mode. The Normal Erase mode allows you to click-and-drag and erase shapes. So you will see that it erases both strokes and fills, and just as the side-note any objects that are grouped will not get erased. The Erase Fills mode only erases fills and not strokes. The Erase Line mode only erases lines not fills.
The Erase Selected Fills mode only erases fills of objects that are selected. So if I have nothing selected and I click-and-drag, nothing will get erased. If I select the cactus and then I click-and-drag, only the fills within the cactus will get erased. Finally, Erase Inside only erases fills of objects that you've started painting inside of. So if I start painting inside of the background, I click-and-drag and move my mouse all over, only that background object will get erased.
So the Eraser tool is another powerful tool that gives you more control over creating artwork by erasing parts of it.
