The animation tools have been greatly enhanced in Flash CS4, and Todd Perkins teaches their advanced capabilities in Flash CS4 Professional Tools for Character Animation. He shows how to master the new Motion Tween model and the Motion Editor to control easing and effects such as Squash and Stretch. He demonstrates how to use the new 3D tools to add rotation, perspective shadows, and layered animations. Complex interactive animations and walk cycles are created without a line of code using bone systems. Todd also demonstrates the power of advanced masking, sound effect syncing, and much more. Exercise files accompany the course.
In this movie we will look at using 3D in layers to create a moving camera effect. If you are following along, go ahead and open up Moving_Camera.fla from the Chapter_02 folder. If you don't have the exercise files, just create a few movie clips and put them on different layers. I am going to test the movie to see what we have so far, Command+Enter on the Mac, Ctrl+Enter on the PC. So the elements are moving forward and we have a 3D effect. Notice that the can in the left who wasn't moving forward. That's all we are going to do here. When you want to create a 3D effect like this, it's really easy in Flash because you can use the 3D tools. All you needed to do to get that 3D effect is move the elements that are more forward, further forward or faster than the elements that are behind them.
So this can here just needs to move a little further forward than every other element. So what I am going to do is create a motion tween here from right-clicking or Ctrl-clicking and choosing Create Motion Tween in the monster layer and then what I am going to do is move the animation frame where all the animated elements stops. So that's about Frame 150. So at frame 150 I am going to select the can in this Stage and then I am going to adjust its 3D position in the Property inspector. So I am going to click and drag that Z slider to the left until the can is really up close. About -400 should do. Let's test the movie and preview the whole animation And that looks good.
So whenever you want to add a 3D camera effect, organize your content into layers and animate the Z positioning of all the objects, moving the objects in front more than those in back.
