In Flash Professional CS5 Essential Training, author Todd Perkins explains the fundamentals of Flash Professional CS5, the industry standard for creating animations and interactive applications for the web, desktop, and mobile devices. This course starts with the basics, such as using the drawing tools to create simple animations, and progresses to automating animation with tweens and adding interactivity with ActionScript. This course also covers how to add sound and video to projects, enhance realism with effects like easing, and publish a project to a variety of platforms. Exercise files are included.
The easiest way to get video into Flash is to use the FLVPlayback component. In this chapter, we'll look at how to import video into Flash and how to play it using that component. A component is a movie clip with pre-built ActionScript code. You can access components through the Components panel, which you can find at Window > Components. The great thing about the FLVPlayback component is that it has pre-built controls for your video. So I have a Play and Rewind button, and a seek bar, time codes, volume, mute, closed captioning, and even a Full Screen button.
This was all created by Flash. I can easily choose which buttons I want and which ones I don't want. Let's take a look at what this looks like in the Flash Player. So the video is playing. I can pause, play. I can seek to certain points. I can see the time code, control the volume slider, muting, etcetera. So again, the easiest way to get video into Flash is to use the FLVPlayback component. You'll learn all about that throughout this chapter.
