Motion tweens require Flash Player 10 or above. If you're going to publish to an earlier version of the Flash Player, you'll need to understand how classic tweens work, so that you can create tweens using symbols. You can recognize a classic tween by its purple background in the timeline. Like a shape tween, a successful classic tween has an arrow, and an unsuccessful classic tween has a dashed line. To create a classic tween, you'll need an instance of a symbol at one frame. Then at another frame, you'll need another instance of that same symbol.
Then you can create the tween, which again will be successful if you see an arrow, and unsuccessful if you see a dashed line. Just like shape tweens, the only times your classic tweens will be unsuccessful is if you don't follow the rules. the only rules are that you have one instance of one symbol on the start and end keyframes. Throughout this chapter, you'll get some practice creating classic tweens and you'll learn about how to use them in your applications.
