The animation tools have been greatly enhanced in Flash CS4, and Todd Perkins teaches their advanced capabilities in Flash CS4 Professional Tools for Character Animation. He shows how to master the new Motion Tween model and the Motion Editor to control easing and effects such as Squash and Stretch. He demonstrates how to use the new 3D tools to add rotation, perspective shadows, and layered animations. Complex interactive animations and walk cycles are created without a line of code using bone systems. Todd also demonstrates the power of advanced masking, sound effect syncing, and much more. Exercise files accompany the course.
Now let's say that you created an animation using the Motion Editor and you wanted to share that animation with somebody that is using Flash CS3. In order to do that all you have to do is choose File > Save As and then for the format you choose Flash CS3. So now let's say I wanted to call this file, Saving_FLCS3. So I have saved it in the Chapter_01 folder then I'll click Save As, I'll see a message that says this file contains the following data that will be lost if saved in the Flash CS3 format: XMP File Info dialog's and metadata and Motion Objects. Basically what this means is that we can't save the animation for Flash CS3, because Flash CS3 doesn't support to this motion tween model.
So what I am going to do is first Cancel and I am going to a cancel saving the file altogether. I am going to show you how to convert your animation to a format that Flash CS3 and even other versions of Flash will accept. To do that Right-click or Ctrl-click the motion tween in the timeline and then choose Convert to Frame by Frame Animation, so I'll do that for the animation layer and for the shadow layer. Now I use the tweening model to create the frame by frame animation that is acceptable by other versions of Flash. So now if I choose File > Save As, and then I choose Flash CS3 Document and I name the file Saving_FLCS3 and click Save As. Then I only see the XMP File Info dialog's metadata as the data that won't transfer when it goes to Flash CS3. So I'll click Save As Flash CS3 and now I have a file that can be opened in Flash CS3.
So by converting motion tweens to keyframes you can utilize features of Flash CS4 and still be able to open the files in previous versions of Flash.
