The animation tools have been greatly enhanced in Flash CS4, and Todd Perkins teaches their advanced capabilities in Flash CS4 Professional Tools for Character Animation. He shows how to master the new Motion Tween model and the Motion Editor to control easing and effects such as Squash and Stretch. He demonstrates how to use the new 3D tools to add rotation, perspective shadows, and layered animations. Complex interactive animations and walk cycles are created without a line of code using bone systems. Todd also demonstrates the power of advanced masking, sound effect syncing, and much more. Exercise files accompany the course.
In this chapter we are going to be working with motion presets. Using motion presets, you can reuse animations and apply them to different objects. If you're following along go ahead and open up Saving_Presets.fla from the Chapter 5 folder. Here I have an animation of a monster in a shadow on the left and then a static monster in shadow on the right. What I am going to do is, save the animation for the monster and the shadow and then apply them to the monster on the right. I will do that by right-clicking or Ctrl-clicking in the animation layer.
Then I will choose Save As Motion Preset. Now I can give the animation a name. I will call it Bounce Monster. That looks good, I'll click OK, and then I am going to do the same thing for the shadow animation. So I'll right-click or Ctrl- click on the shadow animation, and then I will choose Save as Motion Preset. I will name the preset Shadow. Click OK, and then I am going to apply the same animation to the monster on the right. To do that, I will first open the Motion Presets panel by choosing Window > Motion Presets. Then you can see my Custom Presets in the Custom Presets folder within the Motion Presets panel. To apply the animation, I will just select the static monster, select Bounce Monster in the Motion Presets panel, and then click Apply.
I will do the same thing for the Shadow. I select the shadow, Shadow animation in the Motion Presets panel, then click Apply, test the movie and the animation is applied to both monsters. So using motion presets you can easily save and reapply animations to different objects.
