Flash and ActionScript are ideal for creating flexible, easily updatable web sites that are both unique in design and small in file size. In Creating a Portfolio Web Site Using Flash CS4 Professional, Adobe Certified Instructor Paul Trani shows how to exploit Flash to create a web site that showcases work to clients and prospective employers. Find out how to add dynamic navigation, animation, and video to a page, and how to load, sort and display XML that enables portfolio content to be updated without opening Flash. This course is designed to take your existing tweening skills and gotoAndPlay code and walk away with a fully functional Flash site. Exercise files accompany the course.
Also in the Exercise Files folder is a BonusSites folder. So, there are two sites in here. I'm going to review the Corporate site and I'm just going to double-click on this index.fla. So, with this file open, I'm going to go to Window and open up the Actions panel and I'm going to make sure that this first frame is selected. I'm going to focus on the area that has been changed and if you take a look at this function, something has been changed in here. I'm curious as to whether you know which direction this content is moving.
Well if you'd guess x, you'd be right because it is going to move horizontally, so back-and-forth this content is going to move. So, let's go ahead and take a look at it. Notice that this moveContent only accepts two parameters. This first one being a number and then either null for the home information or an swf file, depending of the section. So, I'm going to go to Control>Test Movie and as I roll over each one, you do see a little bit of a distortion going on, so just an added effect. But I can go ahead and click on Video.
That's going to shift, again, horizontally and I can play that video. I can click on the About section that will shift again horizontally. We are just moving back-and-forth, displays the content, just some different options for you and then I can click Portfolio and then it will load in the Portfolio. In this case, the Portfolio scrollbar is vertical, so this scroll pane has been adjusted and if I select an image, it will load in. So just some different options that you can do. Feel free to take this site and learn from it and modify all you want.
