In Flash Professional CS5 Essential Training, author Todd Perkins explains the fundamentals of Flash Professional CS5, the industry standard for creating animations and interactive applications for the web, desktop, and mobile devices. This course starts with the basics, such as using the drawing tools to create simple animations, and progresses to automating animation with tweens and adding interactivity with ActionScript. This course also covers how to add sound and video to projects, enhance realism with effects like easing, and publish a project to a variety of platforms. Exercise files are included.
Now let's take a look at publishing your iPhone application from Flash. Remember that before you can do this, you need to have the P12 certificate file, you need to have a mobile provision, and App ID. So make your you have all of those things and you know where those files are in your computer and then you can create your iPhone application. So you have my file, and I'm going to click Edit next to iPhone OS Settings in the Properties panel. In order to see this setting you'll have to make that everything is deselected. So I'll click Edit and then the iPhone Settings window comes up.
So in the General tab, you have things like the output file name and the app name, the version number, etc. I'm going to change the app name to Olive Oil Tour iPhone. So my version is 1.06. I have landscape for my aspect ratio. And I have full screen set, and I have GPU rendering. That uses the iPhone's graphics card. Then I click to include a few different files. I've included the video I'm playing and default.PNG.
I'll show you default.PNG later in this movie. In the Deployment tab, you'll need to find your certificate, enter the password for the certificate, find your provisioning profile and enter your app ID. And then I'm choosing Quick publishing for device testing. In the Icon section, you set your icons for your application. These need to be PNG files the same size that they tell you. So 29 by 29, 57 by 57, and 512 by 512. I created all these files in Flash using the tricks that I taught in Chapter 21.
So I'll click OK and we'll publish the iPhone application. So we'll go to File > Publish. It'll take about a minute for the iPhone app to publish. And while that's happening, I'm going to show you the default.PNG file. So I'll go over to Finder. And in the Chapter 24 folder I'm going to open up default.PNG. So notice this image that is the default application image when you tap on the icon on the iPhone. So that's the image that scales in. It's kind of the loading screen for the app.
So the even though my app is landscape, I had a portrait image for that loading screen. So just take note of that, that the default.PNG file needs to be named default.PNG with a capital D. It needs to be added to your included files, it needs to be in portrait mode, and the dimensions need to be 320 x 480. SO it looks like Flash is done creating the IPA file. So let's open up Finder and then before I open up this file, I want you to make sure that you've opened up your provisioning profile with iTunes.
That way, iTunes will be able to connect this application to your device. So open up the provisioning profile with iTunes and then double-click the IPA file to open it up with iTunes. This will open iTunes and install the application. And I can sync my iPhone or iPod touch to install the application. So once the application's installed on your device, you can test the application on your iPhone.
