The animation tools have been greatly enhanced in Flash CS4, and Todd Perkins teaches their advanced capabilities in Flash CS4 Professional Tools for Character Animation. He shows how to master the new Motion Tween model and the Motion Editor to control easing and effects such as Squash and Stretch. He demonstrates how to use the new 3D tools to add rotation, perspective shadows, and layered animations. Complex interactive animations and walk cycles are created without a line of code using bone systems. Todd also demonstrates the power of advanced masking, sound effect syncing, and much more. One of the things you can do in Flash is take an animation on the Timeline and encapsulate that animation inside of a movie clip. The thing that's powerful that encapsulated animations is it allows you to put animation and layers inside of a container that you can easily move around or scale or rotate or duplicate. In this movie, we'll take a look at how to do that. If you are following along go ahead and open up Encapsulating_ Animations.fla in the Chapter 01 folder. What I am going to do here is I am going to take the animation layer and the shadow layer and combine them into a movie clip. What I am going to do is make sure all frames are deselected by clicking in the gray area at the bottom of the Timeline. Now I am going to select the animation frames and then Shift-click the shadow frames to select all of the animation frames.
With all the frames selected, I'm going to right-click my selection and I am going to choose Cut Frames. Notice that there is no animation on these frames anymore and then what I am going to do is go to the Insert, New Symbol, or Command+F8 or Ctrl+F8 is the keyboard shortcut. For the symbol name, I am going to type Animation with a capital A, and then I'll click OK. Now I am going to right-click or Ctrl-click in the first frame of Layer 1 in the Timeline, when I am inside the animation movie clip and then I'll choose Paste Frames. Notice the names of the layers are pasted and all the frames are pasted.
So now when I go back to Scene 1, I can drag that animation from the Library on at the Stage. I am going to delete the shadow layer and then click and drag outside of all the frames all the way up to frame 2 so I select arrange of frames. So I make sure that every frame between frame 2 and the last frame all my animations are selected and I'll press Shift+F5 on my keyboard and that will remove all of those frames. I just have one frame in my application now. So now what I am going to do is go to the Library and then click and drag some instances of my animation movie clip on at the Stage and to make it look it little bit different, I am going to change the size and positions of them. So I am going to use the Free Transform tool and scale in some of them just to give this application a little bit more depth, and then I'll test the movie to preview the animation.
So with an animation encapsulated inside of a movie clip, you can easily reuse that as many times as you want.
