Through several hands-on tutorials, instructor Todd Perkins shows how to best build dynamic, streamlined sites using Flash CS3 Professional. Learn how to create custom keyboard shortcuts, apply advanced text techniques such as animating scrolling text with custom easing controls, and using advanced animation techniques. Flash CS3 Professional Beyond the Basics covers many challenging features, including adding complex interactivity to a Flash CS3 project and getting Flash content on a phone. Exercise files accompany the tutorials.
We're going to create all of our animations inside of the robot movie clip. So that we can preserve an original copy of the robot movie clip, we'll duplicate that movie clip for each animation we create. If you're following along, I'm working in 02_Duplicating_Movie_Clips.fla in the Chapter 05 folder in the Exercise Files folder. In the library, find the mcRobot movie clip. Right-click or Ctrl+Click on the Mac, that movie clip in the library and choose Duplicate.
When you choose that option that Duplicate Symbol window opens. Flash asks us what name we'd like to give the new symbol and what type of symbol it's going to be. The new symbol name is going to be mcRobot, with a capital R, Dancing, with a capital D. And I'll choose Movie clip for the Type and then click OK. If you select the robot on the stage, notice that it's still instance of mcRobot. What I'm going to do is tell Flash that instead of being instance of mcRobot, I want this symbol to be an instance of mcRobotDancing.
To do that, click the Swap button in the Property inspector with the symbol selected. The Swap Symbol window opens. In the Swap Symbol window, click the mcRobotDancing movie clip and then click OK. In the Property inspector, you can now see that this symbol is an instance of mcRobotDancing. Duplicating and swapping symbols can be very helpful especially when you're animating in Flash.
