To create a shape tween, you'll need to start with keyframes with shapes on them. Remember shapes only. No groups, no symbols, only basic shapes. Of course, this does include drawing objects. So Flash is not going to discriminate if you use a drawing object instead of a shape. So I have my basic shape on the ponytail bottom layer. I have my keyframe set up for how I want the ponytail to appear. To create the shape tween, I'm going to right-click in between the two keyframes and I'm going to choose Create Shape Tween.
Once I do that, Flash automatically creates the frames in between. So I'll create two more shape tweens, one between frame 6 and 11, and then one between frames 11 and 16. There is my shape tween animation. So just remember, you need to have a basic shape and a keyframe and you define a start keyframe and an end keyframe. You right-click in between the keyframes and then you can create the shape tween.
If you want to remove a tween that you've created, you can right-click in between the two keyframes that you have the tween on and then choose Remove Tween.
