The animation tools have been greatly enhanced in Flash CS4, and Todd Perkins teaches their advanced capabilities in Flash CS4 Professional Tools for Character Animation. He shows how to master the new Motion Tween model and the Motion Editor to control easing and effects such as Squash and Stretch. He demonstrates how to use the new 3D tools to add rotation, perspective shadows, and layered animations. Complex interactive animations and walk cycles are created without a line of code using bone systems. Todd also demonstrates the power of advanced masking, sound effect syncing, and much more. Exercise files accompany the course.
In Flash, you can not only create bone systems that animate, but you can also create bone systems that are interactive. If you are following along, open up Interactive_Bones.fla from the Chapter 3 folder. In order to get this file to work, all you will need is a bone system that you can work with. I am going to double-click the monster to enter its Timeline and then double-click in one of the legs to enter in the movie clip Leg Animation. Here I have a pretty simple bone system that I can click and drag. Now let's say I wanted to make this bone system interactive. So you can click and drag the bones like I am doing here when the Flash movie is playing. All you have to do is select the frames in your Armature layer and then go over to the Property inspector. In the Options section of the Property inspector, change the Type from Authortime to Runtime. With Runtime bone set, you can test the movie, click and drag your bone systems and watch how they are interactive.
So with no ActionScript code, we've quickly and easily created an interactive bone system.
