In Flash Professional CS5 Essential Training, author Todd Perkins explains the fundamentals of Flash Professional CS5, the industry standard for creating animations and interactive applications for the web, desktop, and mobile devices. This course starts with the basics, such as using the drawing tools to create simple animations, and progresses to automating animation with tweens and adding interactivity with ActionScript. This course also covers how to add sound and video to projects, enhance realism with effects like easing, and publish a project to a variety of platforms. Exercise files are included.
Let's look at modifying HTML settings for your application. So, on the Stage I have a video using the FLVPlayback component that has a button to allow full screen. Remember that full screen needs to be set in your HTML file in order to allow full screen Flash. Let's take a look at our publish settings and make that adjustment. So I'll click the Edit button through the Properties panel and then go to the HTML tab in the Publish Settings window. For the Template, I'll choose Flash Only - Allow Full Screen.
Now if I make that change, then I can test the application in a web browser by going to File > Publish Preview > Default. That's HTML. So, you'll see that if I click the Full Screen button, Flash will open the video in full screen mode. I can then press Escape to exit full screen mode. Let's take a look at one more thing you can do using HTML settings. With HTML settings, you can publish your application to be centered on the page.
To do that, go to File > Publish Settings and in the HTML tab, for Dimensions, you can choose Percent and choose Width and Height 100%. Then we need to make sure that the SWF file is not scaled. To do that, go into the Scale mode and choose No scale. After you've made those changes, you can adjust the Flash alignment settings to put your content in the center of the page. As a side note, if you adjust the Window Mode to Transparent Windowless or Opaque Windowless, then you could have other content behind your Flash content where there is transparency.
It's kind of like publishing a video with an alpha channel. So I'll click OK and we'll preview this application in a web browser and notice that it's centered. So, File > Publish Preview > Default. Notice that when I change the size of my web page, content stays in the middle of the page. As a final note, with centering your content, know this. When you use that method, anything that's off the Stage in the pasteboard will show.
So just keep that in mind and if you need to you can make a mask and then mask out anything that's off of the Stage.
