Becoming familiar with the Flash environment

Let's take a look at the Flash environment. The Flash environment is divided into a few different sections. The main section you'll be working in is called the Stage. On my screen right now, the Stage has a white background. This is the visible area for your application. The pasteboard is a gray area off of the Stage. This is the non-visible area of your application. You typically use the pasteboard to deselect objects. So if something selected on the Stage, you can always click in the pasteboard to deselect it. By default, the Timeline is below the Stage. The Timeline organizes your FLA file into layers and frames. We'll talk more about frames later in this title. Above the Stage, you'll see some buttons for navigating through your file, and a dropdown menu that you can use to zoom in and out. To the right of the Stage, you'll see the panels.
