In Flash Professional CS5 Essential Training, author Todd Perkins explains the fundamentals of Flash Professional CS5, the industry standard for creating animations and interactive applications for the web, desktop, and mobile devices. This course starts with the basics, such as using the drawing tools to create simple animations, and progresses to automating animation with tweens and adding interactivity with ActionScript. This course also covers how to add sound and video to projects, enhance realism with effects like easing, and publish a project to a variety of platforms. Exercise files are included.
Now let's look at creating the animations for our slideshow. I'm going to hide all layers except for the top layer. That's the seaweed movie clip and we'll animate this one first. So I'll right-click it and choose Create Motion Tween and then I will go to the last frame and just move the movie clip up and to the left. So I can scrub the playhead and preview the animation. Now I want these animations to be about 10 seconds long. So I'm just going to simply click-and- drag to extend the animation to 240 frames.
Now, that's the number that came from multiplying the frame rate, which is 24, by 10 seconds, so I get 240 frames. So if I test the movie in the Flash Player, you'll see that the image moves up and to the left. Let's start with it fading in. To do that, I'll go to Frame 20, select the artwork on the Stage, and then go to Color Effect, choose Alpha and just drag the slider to 100%. Then I go back to Frame 1, click on the object, drag the Alpha slider to 0, and I'll do the opposite at the end of the Timeline.
So I'll go to Frame 220, drag the Alpha slider a little bit so that Flash creates a keyframe, and I'll release it at 100, and then at the last frame I'll select the object again, click-and-drag the Alpha slider down to 0. So now we have image fading in and then fading out at the end. Now you'll notice some other artwork on the first frame. That's because we didn't animate them yet. So don't worry about that for now. So once you have this animation created, you can create the animations for the seashore and the seagull, and then we'll go from there.
