In Flash Professional CS5 Essential Training, author Todd Perkins explains the fundamentals of Flash Professional CS5, the industry standard for creating animations and interactive applications for the web, desktop, and mobile devices. This course starts with the basics, such as using the drawing tools to create simple animations, and progresses to automating animation with tweens and adding interactivity with ActionScript. This course also covers how to add sound and video to projects, enhance realism with effects like easing, and publish a project to a variety of platforms. Exercise files are included.
Let's look at some of the settings that you can control for your SWF file in the publish settings. So we go to File > Publish Settings and then click the Flash tab. So let's say we wanted to publish to Flash Player 9. So to do that, I can just change the player version to Flash Player 9. Notice the other things you can choose like Adobe AIR or Flash Lite. I'll just choose Flash 9 for now and then Flash gives me information that says TLF text can only be supported by Flash Player 10 or higher, so it will permanently converted to classic text.
So I'll just click OK and the change is then made. So some of the other settings I can adjust are the script version, JPEG quality. This enables a general quality level for all of the bitmap images in my file. If you adjust the compression settings individually through the Library, that will override these changes. Same with the audio stream and the audio event settings. So I can click to set general settings for the audio and they will be overridden if I make specific settings in the Library. I highly recommend using compression for audio and for bitmap images on one file at a time.
That way you can get the best compression for each file, rather than applying a blanket compression to everything that might not work perfectly for each file. Then you have other settings like to compress the movie. To include some metadata in the SWF file. You can choose to generate a size report text file that talks about the size of your file. You can protect the file from import. Using a password, you can control security settings. One thing that's pretty exciting is you can add hardware acceleration.
So if you click the dropdown, you can choose to use the GPU to have graphics card accelerated performance. I like doing that with most of my files. So, you can set these things and then click OK. I'll just test the movie to show you the changes. (Music playing) So to adjust SWF settings for exporting, just go to Publish Settings and click the Flash tab.
