You can add layers to button symbol to add content like text. Of course, you don't have to use layers, but let me show you the advantage to using them in this movie. On the Stage I am going to double-click the instance of btn2. And when I am inside of the button symbol, I am going to create a new layer by clicking the New Layer button at the bottom left of the timeline. I'll rename the new layer to text. I'll lock Layer 1 and then using the Text tool, I'll type out some text. Before typing the text, I am going to change the color to white. I am going to make sure that the font family is Chaparral Pro and the style is Bold.
So I'll click once to create a variable with the text field. So I have my settings for my text field, and then I'm going to make sure I am using the Text Layout Framework. So I will change the engine from Classic Text to TLF Text. And then I'll click on the Stage once to create a text field. Using Caps Lock, I'll type EXPLORE, then I'll press Escape and turn off Caps Lock so I can Exit Text Editing mode. It looks like this font is a little bit too big, so I'll move it in. And then in the Properties panel, I'll shrink the size a little bit. 18 point looks just about right. I'll use my keyboard to get it in place.
So there is my other layer, which is the text layer. Now by using one layer, I am not wasting space by putting the same text on each frame inside of the button. That way if I have to make a change in my text, I only have to change it once, because it's only on one frame. Just remember that you can add layers to button symbols, just like you can in any other symbol as well as on the main timeline.
