I'm Robbie Carmen >> And I'm Rich Harrington. >> And welcome back to another episode of DSLR Video Tips. >> Mm-hm. >> In which this week we want to talk about what happens when you're, you know, in the field or on set. >> Yeah. >> And maybe you're in a multicam solution and you got, you know, a lot of big cameras, some small cameras and then somebody goes, we need one more camera! What do you do? >> I reach in my pocket. >> Oh, that's right. You have a, usually have a pocket camera. >> Usually have a pocket camera. >> Now, it's not that pocket camera. >> No, this one's nice, you know. >> LAUGH >> And this is part of the reason why I have couple of these. >> Right, right. >> And I like having more cameras.
But, you know, the best camera is the one you have. And some people forget that their phones have cameras. >> Of course over the past, you know, three, four, five years the, the arms race, if you will, of cameras and phones have collided and now all of a sudden we're getting camera phones, I mean there is one phone that what are they advertising. >> 4k, yeah. >> 41 mega pixel, 6k, you know, whatever, it's, you know, it's replacement for your red camera. No, no, no. >> It, it's not quite, but they do actually have 4k cell phones, which just boggles my brain that it exists. >> LAUGH It, it does. Now, you actually have the new iPhone 5S here.
>> Yep. >> And I have a regular iPhone 5 and I've, I've been, you know, when the iPhone 5 came out, I was really impressed by the overall image quality and one of the things that's striking that, to me that Apple's done is they haven't kind of caught, caught up in this whole megapixel race, right? >> Right. >> Instead, they've been improving image quality in the places that it really matters: sort of the overall aperture, the quality of the lens, and the size of the photo sights. >> Yeah, essentially, the aperture on the lens stayed pretty much the same. It's a, it's an F2 something. >> Right. >> It varies. >> It's F2, I think, now. >> You know, it's about the same. Good low-light performance actually, better receptors and that's cool.
One of the things I wanted to point out is that the new iOS 7 update that a lot of people can run. >> Mm-hm. >> Actually does a better job with video. Now, you've got the ability to zoom. So, you know, if we've got the video camera open here, you know, you basically now swipe to change modes. >> Yeah, and it took me a little while to get my head around the new redesigned photo app. I mean, again, they redesigned the entire iOS, so it was like a little bit like, where are things? But I agree with you. It's been a little bit more easy to, you know, easier to function in this way. >> Yeah, and you've got a zoom slider.
>> Yep. >> Or you could pinch to zoom. So, you actually can get framed up. I would say better to be zoomed out and move in. >> Totally. >> But, if you find yourself out of reach or you can't get in, that works. >> Now, of course, we still have the same HDR options. We have the the same panoramic options. >> Yeah. >> That we've had before. But when it comes to video, there's one thing I'm a little jealous about the 5S versus my 5. >> Yeah. >> And that is high-speed video. We all love it, right? >> Yeah. >> You know the look, from music videos or sports, when somebody all of a sudden, they're going full speed, all of a sudden they just go right? >> Yeah.
>> And they're in perfect slow motion. And it's a really cool look that of course we can replicate in post or if we have more expensive camera options. >> Yeah. >> A lot of camera, bigger cameras will shoot that. But now on the iPhone, I can shoot 120 frames per second. That's amazing. >> Yeah, it's pretty cool.
