Creating and applying dynamic value lists

Understanding the use of value lists in your database allows you a really strong tool to be able to enforce data consistency and the convenience of data entry for your users. And there's a couple different kinds of value lists. First of which are static value lists, which contain a preset range of values that you the developer go in and enter. And there's another kind that's called a dynamic value list. And a dynamic value list is created on the fly, based on data that's already stored inside the field. And the way these values list work, is that they're automatically added to an inventory of values inside of a field that's called an index. I'm going to show you how we do that, here in this movie. So first of all, every field in your database has what's called an Index. And if you click inside of a field and do, for example, Cmd+I, or Ctrl+I, depending on what version you're on, Mac or Windows, then you can see this interesting little window called View Index.
