Excel 2003 Essential Training with Mark Swift is a movie-based workshop for users who are new to working with spreadsheets, or those wanting to improve their skills. This workshop begins with a basic overview of the application and quickly advances to cover useful formulas, functions, techniques for enhancing spreadsheets, charts, and much more. Exercise files accompany the training, allowing you to follow along and learn at your own pace.
Setting up your screen display and being able to view your work in a customized matter is another important aspect of Excel. Let's open up a couple of workbooks that you'll find in your Student Folders under Chapter 14 Manipulating the Screen. Here's two versions of the Quarterly_Sales spreadsheet that we've seen so frequently, and I'll click Open, and here we go. We have two different versions open right now; our Quarterly_Sales_old and Quarterly_Sales_new. A brand-new feature to Microsoft Excel is the Compare Side by Side. Because there's only one other file open right now it's saying explicitly Compare Side by Side with and it names that file. Well that's what we want, and here you go. We have a toolbar that's dedicated to the Compare Side by Side and currently the synchronous scrolling is active. Synchronous scrolling means that if I'm moving one, it moves the other as well. I can disable that and simply scroll through the top or the bottom, and when I'm finished, I can close the side-by-side view and go back to a single view of my work.
