In a previous movie, we looked at some of the options for protecting workbooks and setting permissions. In this movie, we'll make use of that in sharing a workbook with other users. What if you're working on this workbook and you want other people to be able to modify the same workbook at the same time? Well, click the Review tab and choose Share Workbook. And this dialog box that comes up says do you want to allow more than one user to share at the same time? And it should show that you have it open. Click the checkbox. Click OK.
It's going to save the workbook. Click OK to confirm. Now, not much has changed, except you can see up here that the workbook is now in Shared Mode. So, if I were using this right now with other people in the company modifying this workbook, I might see some of the information changing. Well, when we're done with that, when we want to take control back for ourselves and disallow other people from making changes, just click on this Share Workbook again, deselect that, click OK, click Yes to confirm.
And now we have exclusive use. So, when you share a workbook the way we did in this movie, any changes that you or your coworkers make just simply get done and that's it. But what if you want to be able to approve changes before they are committed, kind of like moderating the workbook? Then you'll want to watch the movie about tracking changes, because that is exactly what we're going to do.
