Effective time management is an indispensable skill. In Time Management Fundamentals, Dave Crenshaw explains how to sensibly allocate time in order to achieve greater productivity. Dave details a set of principles for staying organized, consolidating the workspace, keeping a clear mind, and developing a time budget. Also covered are techniques for managing a full inbox, processing email, and reserving time for the most important activities. Exercise files accompany the course.
At this point you may be concerned about this huge list of tasks and action items that you've cleared out of your mind. If you find yourself in that position, I would encourage you to move on through the training. A little later in this course, we'll get into the habit of processing, and I'll show you, step by step, how to take each item on the list and decide what you're going to do with it, when you're going to do it, and where it belongs. Remember, from this point forward, cultivate the habit of clearing anything out of your mind the moment it begins to interrupt your thoughts.
The moment the thought of a to-do comes into your head, immediately pull out an approved gathering point and write it down. Get into that habit. Don't let anything swirl around there. Get it out. Remember, your mind is not an acceptable gathering point.
