After installing Photoshop Elements 10 on your computer, you may be wondering, where do I go from here? Well, the first thing you need to do is launch the application. I'm working on the Mac OS here, so I'm going to begin by going to the File menu on the Mac OS and choosing New Finder Window. Inside of here, I'm going to click on the Applications folder, and within there, I'm going to find an icon for Adobe Photoshop Elements 10. Now, this icon is actually the folder, the application will reside directly inside of there. Now, on the Mac OS, I'm going to drag this shortcut and I'm going to drop it into my dock so that I have quick access to it later on. Now, if you're in the Windows OS, you can access the Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 application by going to the Start menu, which will be located in the lower-left corner of your computer.
And I'm going to go ahead and begin by launching Photoshop Elements 10 on my machine. Now, you'll probably be asked what region you're located in. And this is just a way to identify for the application where you are located geographically. So, I'm going to scroll down to the United States and I'm going to choose that option and click OK, and you'll only have to perform that operation one time. Once you tell it where you're located, then it knows from there going forward. The first thing that's going to appear when you launch Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 is the Welcome Screen. Think of the Welcome Screen as the launch pad where you begin all of your operations inside of Adobe Photoshop Elements 10. Now, what we're going to do here is, over here on the left-hand side, we have both an Organize button and an Edit button.
And this is really where you launch the two main applications inside of Adobe Photoshop Elements 10. But another important section that I want to point out is in the lower left corner of your screen here. You can see that it's asking you to sign in with your Adobe ID. Now, although this is not required, it is a very useful tool in gaining more features when you're working inside of this program. Getting an Adobe ID is absolutely free and it's really easy to sign up for an Adobe ID. You can see that over here in the middle section of the Welcome Screen, if you do not already have an Adobe ID, you can click this button to create a new Adobe ID and it'll guide you through the process.
Now, I already have an Adobe ID, so I'm going to click the Cancel button, and I'm going to go ahead and sign in at this point using my Adobe ID. Once I've entered my username and password, I'll click the Sign In button and this is going to authenticate me to Adobe's servers. Once you're signed in, you'll be asked for some basic information. So, I'm going to go ahead and choose my birthday, so it knows when I was born. And then, you can also define your personal URL that you want to use to be able to access your homepage when you're using Photoshop Elements and posting images to the web. So, what I'll do is I'll just type my name, and I'll go ahead and click the Update Account button.
And that's all there is to it. Once you've signed in using your Adobe ID and password, you'll gain additional features within this Welcome Screen and within the Photoshop Elements 10 application. In addition to the options that you gain at the bottom of the Welcome Screen here by entering your Adobe ID, you can also change the preferences for Photoshop Elements by clicking on this Settings link in the upper right corner of the Welcome Screen. When you click that link, you can see that you can change how Photoshop Elements behaves by determining if you just want the Welcome Screen to appear, when you start Photoshop Elements.
Whether you want it to only launch the Organizer or if you prefer only the Elements Editor to launch, when you launch Photoshop Elements. So, I'm going to leave my preference set to Just Show The Welcome Screen and I'll go ahead and click OK. After installing Photoshop Elements 10 on your computer, you'll be up and running in no time and you'll be ready to start working with photos that you've taken with your digital camera.
