If you're a premium member of the lynda.com Online Training Library, or if you're watching this tutorial on a DVD-ROM, you have access to the Exercise Files used throughout this title. I've already downloaded the exercise files, and I want to show you how they're laid out. You can see that each chapter has Premiere Elements project files, and there's a whole folder full of assets that we'll import in one of the first lessons. If you're not clear about these different types of files, you might want to look at the Premiere Elements Essential Training course.
There is one more important thing to note here, and it's called re-linking. When you first open these project files, they need to be re-linked to their associated media. It's impossible for Premiere Elements to carry that information with it from one machine to the other. So here you see that the program is asking me, "Where is the file 'Glass_Blower_INT_A_01.mov'?" Well, it's in my assets folder. And once I locate it and tell Premiere Elements to open it, it's going to automatically find all of these other files that are in the folder, so we only have to do this once.
You can see I'm getting another message, "Where is a Rendered file?" In this case we want to skip the previews, because although I may have rendered this project previously, the render files are not included with the exercise files, so you'll have to render on your own. Skip Preview is not always going to be the right choice if you're working on your own projects. But when you first open the Exercise File projects, you do want to skip the previews.
If you are not a premium subscriber to lynda.com, you don't have access to the exercise files, but you can still follow along from scratch, using your own assets. In fact, I think that's a great way to do this course.
