Photoshop Elements 7 is packed with features to help amateur photographers with every stage of digital photo processing, from getting organized to sharing projects with family and friends. In Photoshop Elements 7 for Windows Essential Training, Jan Kabili shares workflow techniques for organizing, editing, creating projects, and sharing. She also demonstrates how to enhance photos with this budget-friendly software. Jan explains the latest updates to the Organizer and Editor workspaces, and also covers new features like the Smart Brush tool and Photoshop.com integration. Elements is very well known for its project features, and Jan shows how to create books, collages, panoramas, and more. Example files accompany the course.
When you've got some nice photos, you're going to want to print them. Elements offers a feature that will help you to print your individual prints and even picture packages. That's the Print dialog box, which you can access from here in the Share panel of the Task pane. I'm working here in the 14_02_printing subfolder of the Chapter 14 exercise files. I'm going to select one of the photos in that folder, hold the Shift key and select the last to have all four selected and then go over to the Share panel and I'll click Print. This is the same thing as going to the File > Print menu in either the Editor or the Organizer.
I'm going to dismiss this message, which has to do with the resolution of the particular files that I'm using. There are three steps here in this dialog box labeled for you 1, 2, 3. The first is to Select your Printer, the second is to Choose the Type of Print, either individual prints, contact sheet or picture package. You then select your Print Size and that can be one of these presets or it can be a custom print size. If you uncheck One Photo Per Page, Elements will fill the page with multiple images, saving paper, and you can also choose to print each photo more than one time. Let's take a look at step number two again and see what a contact sheet looks like.
Contact sheets are used to have a physical record of the photos in your computer. You can change the layout of this contact sheet from step number three by changing the number of columns either increasing to get more photos on that page or making each contact photo larger like this. You can choose to have a date caption and/or file name as the text label for each entry on your contact sheet. I'm going back to step two and let's see how to make a picture package. Elements comes with a variety of layouts for picture packages and you can choose any one of these to layout the pictures on the page.
You can even select a fancy frame, like this antique rectangle or you could fill the page with the first photo. I'm going to leave things as is for now, no matter which type of print you are making, it's important to manage the color in the prints so that the color that comes out of your printer is as close as possible to the color that you see when you're working here on your computer with Elements. To do that, always go to the More Options button at the bottom of this dialog box and from there, pull down the Print Space menu and choose a combination that most resembles your printer, the ink that you're using and the kind of paper that you're using and then click OK.
That's all you have to do before you hit the Print button and send your images to your printer. Make use of this user- friendly dialog box to quickly get your photos from digital to print.
