Video: Printing photos and contact sheets

Although many images are being displayed online these days, when you've got a really nice photo, you're going to want to print it. You can do that directly from Elements by opening the image in the Create workspace, which I accessed by clicking this Purple Tab. To make a print, I'll go down to the Photo Prints project here and that opens the Print dialog box with a preview of the print. There are just a few steps to printing and they're clearly spelled out over here on the right. The first step is to select your printer from this menu. If your printer doesn't appear in this menu, I suggest you go to the printer manufacturer's website, find the driver for your particular operating system, download it and install it, and then restart Elements.

Printing photos and contact sheets

You should find your printer here in this menu. Next, go to the Select Paper Size menu and choose the size of the paper on which you'll be printing. Finally, select the size of the print from one of these preset sizes, from the actual size of your particular image, or by choosing Custom and typing a Height and Width in inches into these fields. I am going to cancel out of there. Then I also can choose to Crop to Fit, if I choose a Print Size that's different than the actual size in my photo.

Here I can choose the number of copies of the photo to print and then I can go down underneath the Preview and if I need to change the orientation of the image, I can use one of these two Rotate buttons. There are some other options down here under More Options and Page Setup that are determined by your printer's driver. So, I am not going to show you those because mine may be different than yours. When you're ready to finally print, you can just click the Print button here. You may have to go through a few more dialog boxes depending on your printer driver, but in the end, you'll have a great looking print from your Desktop printer.

I am going to cancel out of this dialog box because I want to show you something else. Sometimes it's nice to have a Contact Sheet of multiple images. Now you can't create a Contact Sheet directly here in Elements, but you can do that in Bridge. So, I'm going to launch Bridge by clicking this icon and then I'm going to show you that if you go to the Workspace menu here and you choose instead of the basic Essentials Workspace, the Output Workspace and you click on PDF, you can scroll up and go to the Template field and here you can choose one of a couple of different Contact Sheet templates.

I am going to refresh the preview. Now I only have one image open here, but if I had multiple images, they would appear as small thumbnails across this Contact Sheet template. You can further tweak the layout of the template down here in the Layout area and then you could save this contact sheet as a PDF and print it from any program that will open a PDF.
