Photoshop Elements 8 for Windows Essential Training highlights the important features of this comprehensive image organization and photo enhancement application. Photographer Jan Kabili shows how to use Photoshop Elements to organize and edit photos, build photos into projects like slideshows and photo books, and share photos with family and friends. Jan explains how to train Photoshop Elements 8 to recognize and tag faces, use the Smart Brush for targeted adjustments, and share photos using Adobe's online service, photoshop.com. She also dives deep into the application's editing tools, which rival those of the full product, Photoshop, in their ability to take snapshots and turn them into great photos. Exercise files accompany the course.
Adobe is partnered with a couple of third-party photo services and you can take advantage of those services to order professionally printed photos and photo books from Elements and to post your photos from Elements online at places other than Photoshop.com, the Adobe site that I'll be covering in later movies. I'm going to start here in the Organizer and I'm going to select some photos for which I'd like to have some prints made. I will quick one of those and then I'll hold down the Shift key and click another and that selects all in between. Then I'll click on the Create tab in a task pane of the Organizer and from there I'm going to choose Photo Prints.
The first two options are just another way to access the Print dialog box, to print Individual Prints or a Picture Package. From the last two options, you can choose to upload your pictures and order prints from either Shutterfly or from Kodak. There are charges associated with these services, so I suggest that once you have selected your photos, you click on one of these options and investigate what they offer. I'm actually going to cancel out of this area for now and I'm going to show you how you can have a professionally printed photo book made for you.
Also in the Create tab is a Photo Book option, which I'm clicking now. I can choose Print with Local Printer and that'll allow me to print my own book as I showed you how to do in an earlier movie. But I have some professional printing services available here too at a charge. Shutterfly offers two options. The Photo Books option relies on templates that you fill in with your own photos. The Digital Scrapbook option allows you to create a custom layout and then upload that for printing to the Shutterfly service, and you can also create a photo book from Kodak here.
So as you can see in Photoshop Elements 8, the interface for ordering professional photo books or photo prints is much simpler than it was in the past. I think the books in particular are really special and I suggest that you order at least one book to see how great your photos will look when they're printed professionally in that book.
